= The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has blamed former military dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida for the current problems troubling the nation’s education sector.

= The Public Relations Officer of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Oyo State, Mr. Kehinde Salawu, has described as untrue and unfounded, reports in some quarters that the new faction of the party led by Kawu Baraje, had been operating in the state, saying the report had no iota of truth.

= The Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Mr. Haruna Tsokwa, is dead. The speaker, a known loyalist of Taraba acting Governor, Umar Garba, was engaged in a legal tussle with the ailing Governor Danbaba Suntai, over his refusal to accept a letter transmitted by the governor signifying his intention to resume duties after a 10-month absence on medical treatment abroad.

= There was pandemonium today following an early morning fire that razed the 25-storey Great Nigeria Insurance Company Limited’s house in Lagos Island. The commercial building, which is located along Martins Street, off Balogun, Marina, Lagos Island, housed banks and other businesses.


= Egypt's ousted leader Mohammed Morsi  has gone on trial in Cairo, telling the judge the case is illegitimate as he remains president. 

= Police say four people have been charged over the siege at the Westgate shopping Centre in Kenya's capital, Nairobi, in which at least 67 were killed. 

= French police have released a sketch of a man wanted in connection with the murders of four people in the Alps last year.


= Golden Eaglets defensive midfielder Akinjide Idowu has been ruled out of Tuesday’s semi-final match against Sweden after he bagged his second booking against Uruguay.

= Arsenal are reportedly targeting an ambitious January loan move for Juventus striker Fernando Llorente as they prepare to reinforce their strike force.
 


= Justin Bieber has incensed fans in Brazil after storming off the stage because someone threw a water bottle at him. The bottle knocked the microphone out of the hand of the singer, who looked into the crowd before turning and walking off without saying goodbye.
