PRESIDENCY FAULTS WORLD BANKS CLASSIFICATION OF THE COUNTRY'S POPULATION AS “DESTITUTES”.

The office of the Presidency has faulted a report by World Bank Country Director, Marie-Francoise Marie-Nelly, stating that 100 million Nigerians are living in destitution or extreme poverty. It said such a statement contradicts the World Bank's position on the level of poverty in Nigeria. Speaking through the Chief Economic Adviser to the President, Dr Nwanze Okidegbe , the Presidency described the claim as spurious and astonishing on a number of levels. He added that rather than engage in peddling easily disprovable and inaccurate poverty numbers, the World Bank should focus its attention on designing programmes and interventions to support the government’s efforts in accelerating poverty reduction in Nigeria. Lol like isn’t that your job Mr President? And the World Bank Country Director isn’t far from the truth. The earlier  our leaders and we as a nation acknowledge our shortcomings, the faster we would progress.
