Local officials say some pilgrims, mostly women and children, have been killed in a stampede at a Hindu
festival in central India. Many were crushed after panic broke out on a bridge
near the Ratangarh Temple while some others died when they jumped from the
bridge. Officials said the stampede may have been sparked by a rumour that the
bridge was about to collapse, as Thousands gathered near the town of Datia for
the festival. Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of the National Disaster Management
Authority, Marri Shashidhar Reddy, said that the death toll from
weekend Cyclone Phailin, which hit India's east coast and the biggest in 14
years, has risen to 14. Two disasters in one weekend....not good :(
