UNITED NATIONS & NIGERIA SIGN AGREEMENT
The United Nations system has signed an agreement with Nigeria in which it will spend a combined 14.7 billion naira on techinacal and financial assistance to the country over a four year period (here we go again). The agreement termed "Nigeria-United Nations Assistance Framework" will regulate the terms and areas of assistance of the agencies delivering as one United Nation from 2014-2017.The Minister of National Planning Dr. Shamsudden Usman signed on behalf of Nigeria and said the framework will assist greatly in the reduction of duplication of UN activities in the country that would help reduce transaction costs for both the government and the UN system. It would also include strengthening electoral and political institutions and support the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct the 2015 elections and assisting Benue and Niger states to come up with their vision documents.
