FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO PROSECUTE INDICTED OIL MARKETERS OVER STOLEN FUNDS
The co-ordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala disclosed that the federal government has vowed to prosecute oil marketers found guilty in the oil subsidy scam and recover more than 232 billion naira excess payments made to them. According to her,the total petroleum subsidies paid to oil marketing firms in 2006 amounts to 256 billion naira and that by 2011 the bill for petroleum subsidy payments had risen to 2.10 trillion naira. To avoid occurences like this in the future, she said the government had introduced three electronic payment systems and oversight platforms to prevent more fraudulent payment claims which had so far saved the government over 119 billion naira through the elimination of ghost workers (yimu). Wasn't a panel set up concerning this fuel subsidy scam? Who has been sentenced? Wasn't one of the panel members even caught on tape receiving bribe, what has been done to him? Abeg abeg abeg, until we see some of them behind bars, dear federal government we don't believe you!
