HOUSE OF REPS CONSIDERING NEW BILL

A bill seeking to ban political office holders and senior public servants from sending their kids abroad might be introduced in the House of Representatives. The Chairman of the Committee of Finance of the House said the proposed legislation was designed to address the growing decay of infrastructure and poor quality of education in public schools in Nigeria by successive governments at all levels. He also said although most of those in prominent positions in our government passed through the public school system, they send their children to private schools in Nigeria and abroad despite the huge financial costs involved. If this bill is passed, it would be a crime for government officers to enroll their children in schools abroad except for post-graduate degree programmes.
