The Academic and Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal government have continued to demonstrate their utter nonchalant attitude towards the growth of Nigeria through a sound tertiary educational system. ASUU embarked on a nation wide strike more than four months ago for demands that have not been met since 2009. ASUU has refused to agree to any compromise and the Federal government has refused to comply with ASUU's demands citing various reasons for the shortfall. The actions for the past four months and in history past demonstrates the selfishness and retrogressive attitudes of the government and ASUU. The losers in this saga is neither the FG or ASUU as they have all supposedly graduated from the university. The people affected by this dangerous trend are the undergraduates left idle, are the parents having to bare the responsibilities of their idle children, the Nigerian workforce and the Nigerian economy and development in general. The players in this sad game should put the vital aspects of this industrial strike into perspective and weigh the benefits and costs. In all, the Nigerian undergraduate should not be at the receiving end.
