The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD)has announced the suspension of its over three week old nationwide strike. The president of the association, Dr Jibril Abdullahi, disclosed that the strike was suspended following a meeting by the National Executive Council of NARD in Abuja, on October 24. Abdullahi noted that a memorandum of understanding on the suspension of the strike was reached and signed at the two-day stakeholders' meeting between the leadership of the doctors and representatives of the Federal Government. Meanwhile, the Federal Government yesterday, in a statement issued by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu, commended members of the association for keeping to their promise to suspend the strike, adding that the present administration of President Goodluck Jonathan would continue to ensure industrial harmony and maintain the practice of social dialogue.
