The Joint Investigation Team set
up by the Defence Headquarters has recommended the immediate prosecution of
over 500 persons, including a medical doctor, apprehended in the course of
security operations against terrorists. The Director of Defence Information,
Brig.-Gen Chris Olukolade, in an electronic mail yesterday, said the team also
recommended the release of 167 others. The over 500 suspects, who also include
high-profile individuals and paramilitary personnel, will be tried in the
states where they were arrested and the Federal High Courts.
