HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES REJECT PART-TIME LEGISLATURE

The House of Representatives have rejected the proposal that members of the National Assembly should perform their legislative duties on a part-time basis, arguing that while the cost of governance may be high in Nigeria, it would be wrong to portray the legislature as a burden to the economy. This had earlier been suggested by the Minister of Education Mrs Oby Ezekwelisi when she said legislators serving on a part-time basis would help reduce the cost of governance. Seems like a lot of our legislators didn't take this lightly as a lot of them have said the 150 billion naira allocated to the National Assembly was only a small fraction of this year's 4.9 trillion naira national budget. Some also said that much of the challenge of high cost of governance has been created by the rising overhead cost in ministries, departments and agencies of the government.(yeah,I'm sure it has nothing to do with you guys....smh)
