ASUU STRIKES AGAIN.....
It seems ASUU is winning because there hasn't been thunder in a while(LOL). The Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) have rejected the 130 billion naira the Federal Government disbursed into the university system as part of efforts to convince lecturers to call off the strike. In a letter written to Benue state governor Gabriel Suswam as the head of the National Economic Empowerment Development Strategy(NEEDs) by the President of ASUU Dr. Nasir Isa Fagge the union insists that based on the 2009 ASUU/FGN agreement and the January 2012 Memorandum of Understanding signed by both parties, what is due for the year 2012 and 2013 is 500 billion naira. The union has also condemned the exclusion of 22 universities from the allocation for renovation of laboratories and libraries and 3 universities from the allocation for renovation of lecture theatres and rooms. Meanwhile President Jonathan through the Minister of Education Prof. Ruqayyat Rufai, has said that there is no need for ASUU to continue with its strike.
